The education minister says they are working on alternative assessment methods if the tests are not held

A decision on holding this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School (HSC) exams will be taken soon, says Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni.

She said the ministry is also working on alternative assessment methods to evaluate the SSC and HSC examinees if no examination takes place considering the overall Covid-19 situation.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday at Dhaka’s Keraniganj after an event, Dipu Moni said they would wait a few days to see whether it is possible to hold the tests for tenth and twelfth graders.
She urged the students to continue with their studies as they need to understand the lessons in the next year.

On vaccination of students, the minister said the residential students of the university, including that of medical colleges, will be inoculated first.

When asked about the exact date of reopening the educational institutions, she said: “How can we say? None of us can say about it. We hoped to reopen in March, but the Covid-19 scenario is changing every day.”

She said people should properly follow the lockdown regulations to stem the spread of the virus as infections continue to surge.
